This is the list of Chalchitra Bharat for the top 100 influential films
in
Hindi. As stated earlier, the word “influential”
has been interpreted in a holistic and integrated manner, something
which tries
to encompass all the related aspects of film making. This does include
Box-office, the ultimate goddess for whom every film-maker would
inherently and
ultimately pray for, because films are for masses, in the true sense of
the
word. Yet, it can’t reversely if said that a film that was not received
pleasantly by the people is not a film worth mentioning or which gets
eliminated from the list of the influential ones. Thus
the mathematical connotations where we
talk about necessary and sufficient conditions, using phrases like if
and only
if, do not at all hold true when the overall impact of films are being
gauged.
Finally, why did we make this list? The reason is simple. Films are the most important and powerful medium of expression since their advent and this holds true even today, despite TV having come in a big way. Thus they represent society and are a very true reflection of it. At the same time, they also impact society in a big way. Hence listing of films on the basis of their impact could be interpolated as one of the means of studying the modern society through its changing complexions. Thus the study of cinema is widely related to study of so many different aspects of life. These topics can be AIDS, Right to Information, Human Rights, corruption related issues, social causes including Men and women rights, Dalit rights, Health related issues, poverty related issues and so or could be light-hearted and general entertainment related. Thus, the importance of any analysis of the influential Hindi films.
