The government is replacing all engineering entrances, including Indian Institutes of Technology-Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE) and All India Entrance Examination for Engineering (AIEEE), with one National Aptitude Test (NAT).

The reform is likely to benefit more than 10 lakh students every year, who at present have to take multiple examinations to get into engineering courses.
In a meeting, which was attending by the directors of IIT Delhi, Kanpur and other engineering institutions, the government broadly agreed on “one nation one examination” policy. Dr T Ramaswamy, secretary, department of science and technology was entrusted the job to re-look at the test methodology of selecting students and have a common system for admission. According to sources, NAT will be similar to the single medical entrance test that the Medical Council of India (MCI) will conduct from next year.
The state governments may not approve the idea of NAT and the IITs do not want the JEE system to be destroyed. “You already have a good system working, why destroy it,” an IIT director said.
During the last meeting of the IITs council, there was no consensus on having a single entrance examination for admissions. Seven out of 15 IITs favoured having a separate “add-on” examination in addition to the NAT. However, HRD minister Kapil Sibal is of the view that if IITs have an additional exam then nothing stops other institutions like planning and architecture colleges etc to have their own exams.
The Science Advisory Council to the Prime Minister in its recommendations has also favoured a single entrance examination for engineering.

Subsequent to the announcement of the result, you have to face the AIEEE-2009 Counseling. What is AIEEE Counseling?
Well, it is nothing but options before you to choose (depending on your AIEEE-2009 Result) which Engineering/Architecture colleges you can join and in which branch. This is the most difficult part for most of the students – since the options are too many: more than 50 institutes takes part in AIEEE exam every year.
At first, what are the AIEEE-2009 counseling dates?
AIEEE-2009 counseling is expected to be held in the 3rd/4th week of June, 2009 as per previous years AIEEE counseling dates as below:
Main Counseling:http://hallosushant.blogspot.com/
Phase-I: Off-campus On-line Counseling (June 23 - June 29, 2008)
Phase-II: On-campus On-line Counseling (July 4 - July 13, 2008)
Second Round of Counseling:
(For only those registered candidates who had neither been allotted seats nor withdrawn)
: August 2 - 4, 2008.
AIEEE-2009 counseling dates are expected to be held on similar dates as above. Nearer this time, for exact dates keep on checking this AIEEE-2009 Central Counseling Board website.
AIEEE Counseling Procedure:
Based on relative performance of AIEEE examinees, AIEEE Central Counseling Board would decide the All India & State Rank to be called for Central Counseling. The Central Counseling Board than would send by post the Information Brochure for counseling only to the candidates eligible for counseling.http://hallosushant.blogspot.com/
As per AIEEE-2009 notification, AIEEE-2009 counseling would be on line off campus. What is on line off campus AIEEE counseling?
Go through this AIEEE-2008 counseling procedure (Phase-I), which describes the AIEEE counseling process very elaborately.
AIEEE Rank & College Admissions:
After you get your AIEEE result, even before the AIEEE-2009 counseling is held, you definitely would like to know, based on your AIEEE rank, you can get admissions in which AIEEE colleges/branches.
This knowledge would also help you in making an informed choice in the AIEEE-2009 counseling.
Best place to seek this information is to see with what AIEEE rank, which colleges offered admissions in which branches though the AIEEE-2008 Central Counseling Board website. In this website, look for following:
Institute-wise Branch-wise Category-wise AIEEE Opening & Closing Rank:
Based on AIEEE-2007 exam, this gives you in which institute, in which branches, what was the opening & closing AIEEE ranks. This says you which branches are available in which institute and what was the AIEEE rank required in AIEEE-2007 to get admissions.

State-wise and Category-wise First & Last All India Rank of AIEEE:
It is another good information to know from your own state, what was the first and last AIR in AIEEE from each category.
Following Engineering Colleges admit students based on AIEEE Scores:

Dr Abdul Kalam: NTU Honorary Degree of Doctor of Engineering

Dr A P J Abdul Kalam, President of India, 2002-2007 receives the Degree of Doctor of Engineering (Honoris Causa) from President of the Republic of Singapore and Chancellor of NTU, Mr S R Nathan, in an award ceremony held on 26 August 2008 at the Nanyang Auditorium. The honorary degree is conferred in recognition of Dr Kalam’s life-long achievements in the service of India, his international reputation in science and technology and his contributions to the improvement of India-Singapore relations.

Among the guests at the ceremony are Senior Minister, Mr Goh Chok Tong, and Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr S Balaji.

The conferment of an honorary doctorate on Dr Kalam is a major boost to the growing academic partnership between Singapore and India, and will enhance the level of engagement between institutions in the two countries.

Distinguished contributions in technology for the betterment of India:

Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, earned his Aeronautical Engineering degree from the Madras Institute of Technology in 1957 and contributed to the development of India’s first satellite launch. As the Chief Executive of the Defence Research and Development Organisation of India, Dr Kalam was in charge of the Integrated Guided Missile Development Project.

Dr Kalam served as the Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India, in the rank of Cabinet Minister, from 1999 to 2001 and was also the Chairman, Ex-officio, of the Scientific Advisory Committee to the Cabinet and piloted the India Millennium Mission 2020.

After completing his term as President in of India in 2007, Dr Kalam continued to advance the application of science and technology in India, particulary among its young citizens. Popularly known as the “Missile Man of India” for his works, Dr Kalam is widely acknowledged as a progressive mentor, innovator and visionary in India.

Promoting the convergence of technologies in NTU:

During his visit to NTU in 2006, Dr Kalam, then President of India, was particularly impressed with the convergence of key technologies like nano, bio and information technologies in the University. He was confident that a major collaboration between Singapore and India would greatly benefit humankind. Since then, NTU has benefited from the close working relationship with the Indian Institute of Science (Bangalore) in nano-technology.
