After competing for three tense weeks against the world’s best players to emerge as the undisputed world champion.



Viswanathan Anand (pet name-TIGER), managed to keep his under control, after his quick 20-move draw with Hungarian Grand Master Peter Leko meant that he was the undisputed world chess champion all over again.

· Born on dec11, 1969.
· Taught chess by mother an became more interested in the game in Philippines where his father got transferred.
· 1983-84: National sub-junior champion.
· 1983-86: National junior (U-19) champion.
· 1984: world sub-junior runners-up.
· 1984-85: Asian junior champion became youngest International Master (IM) at 15.
· 1986-88: hat-trick of national A titles. Still, the youngest ever champion.
· 1987: World junior champion, first Asian to do so.
· Became asia’s first and world’s youngest grand master (GM)
· 1988: First Grand Slam (Wijk aan Zee)
· 1989: First national rapid champion.
· Asian rapid champion.
· 1990: Third in Manila inter-zonals, became 1st Indian to qualify for World championship.
· 1991-92: Won the 1st Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award.
· 1992: 1st big win ahead of Kasparov and Karpov at Reggio Emila (category 18)
· Won in Linares over Ivanchuk.
· 1994: 1st Melody and Amber Title (rapid and Blindfolded)
· Won PCA Grand Prix ahead of Kasparov.
· 1995: PCA World championship runner-up to Kasparov.
· 1996: beat Kasparov in the final of rapid GP
· 1997-98: Won Fide World championship knockout but lost to karpov in the final as challenger. Broke in the World’s top three and has remained there for last 10years.
· First Chess Oscar. Repeated it in 1998, 2003 & 2004.
· 1998: Won in Linares ahead of Kasparov
· 1998: Won the Advanced chess title (with both players taking help from computers) introduced by kasparov.
· 2000: won the Fide World Cup.
· 2000-01: Fide world title in Knock-out format. Retained the title in Hyderabad 2002.
· 2001: Beat unofficial world champion Kramnik in Duel of Champions.
· 2002: Won the EuroTel World Trophy, an elite knock-out event including all Big ones at that time.
· 2002: Hat-trick of Corsica Masters rapid titles , bt Karpov in final.
· 2003: World rapid title by beating kramnik in final.
· 2004: Won in Wijk aan Zee to become World No.2
· 2005: Runner-up to Topalov in Fide world championship tournament.
· 2006: Won a record fifth title at Wijk aan Zee, became fourth player to cross 2800 Elo rating point; Won the strongest ever blitz event as well as World blitz title.
· 2007: Won in Linares and with that overtook Topalov as world No.1
· Became Fide World champion in tournament format in Mexico City.
