List of 100 most Influential Hindi films

This is the list of Chalchitra Bharat for the top 100 influential films in Hindi.  As stated earlier, the word “influential” has been interpreted in a holistic and integrated manner, something which tries to encompass all the related aspects of film making. This does include Box-office, the ultimate goddess for whom every film-maker would inherently and ultimately pray for, because films are for masses, in the true sense of the word. Yet, it can’t reversely if said that a film that was not received pleasantly by the people is not a film worth mentioning or which gets eliminated from the list of the influential ones.  Thus the mathematical connotations where we talk about necessary and sufficient conditions, using phrases like if and only if, do not at all hold true when the overall impact of films are being gauged.
Finally, why did we make this list? The reason is simple. Films are the most important and powerful medium of expression since their advent and this holds true even today, despite TV having come in a big way. Thus they represent society and are a very true reflection of it. At the same time, they also impact society in a big way. Hence listing of films on the basis of their impact could be interpolated as one of the means of studying the modern society through its changing complexions. Thus the study of cinema is widely related to study of so many different aspects of life. These topics can be AIDS, Right to Information, Human Rights, corruption related issues, social causes including Men and women rights, Dalit rights, Health related issues, poverty related issues and so or could be light-hearted and general entertainment related. Thus, the importance of any analysis of the influential Hindi films.

Australia gets first woman PM, reviews mine tax- Former prime minister Kevin Rudd made an emotional and ignominious exit, quitting just before the Labor party was to set dump him in a leadership ballot.

CANBERRA: Australia appointed its first woman prime minister Julia Gillard on Thursday, who vowed to end division over a controversial mining tax, resurrect a carbon trade scheme and call elections within months.

Former prime minister Kevin Rudd made an emotional and ignominious exit, quitting just before the Labor party was to set dump him in a leadership ballot.

The Rudd government's dramatic slide in support this year sparked fears within the ruling party of an electoral defeat at a poll expected around October.

"I asked my colleagues to make a leadership change because I believed that a good government was losing its way," Gillard told a news conference.

Centrebet bookmaker made a Gillard Labor government outright favourite to win the next election, expected around October.

Gillard, 48, immediately offered to end a bitter dispute over a controversial "super profits" mining tax, which is threatening $20 billion worth of investment and has unnerved voters, saying she would throw open the door for fresh negotiations.

But she stressed miners should pay more tax.

"To reach a consensus we need to do more than consult, we need to negotiate. We must end this uncertainty which is not good for this nation," she said, adding the government would end its mine tax advertisements and called on miners to withdraw their multi-million dollar ad campaign which was worrying voters.

The Australian dollar briefly jumped after the leadership change, while shares in BHP Billiton, the world's biggest miner, and Rio Tinto rose 2%, on hopes of a mining tax compromise, before coming off their best.

Gillard's takeover would see the government resurrect its failed climate change policy, a carbon trade emissions scheme, with the new prime minister saying she was disappointed in the government's failure to pass laws to set a price on carbon.

"If elected as prime minister I will re-prosecute the case for a carbon price at home and abroad. I will do that as global economic conditions improve and our economy continues to strengthen," she said.

Rudd became the shortest-serving Australian prime minister since 1972, with his leadership falling apart after a string of poor opinion polls showed him losing ground over recent decisions to shelve a carbon-reduction scheme and impose a new mining tax.

"I have given my absolute all. I was elected by the Australian people as the prime minister ... to bring back a fair go for all Australians," said Rudd, choking back tears.

Government lawmakers believe Gillard has a better chance of winning back voters ahead of elections because she is a warmer personality who can sell policies more effectively.

Gillard will automatically attract a large female vote, especially when compared with conservative opposition leader Tony Abbott, who is anti-abortion and opposes sex before marriage.

A recent opinion poll showed, female voters would ditch Abbott for Gillard, favouring the female leader by a commanding 53% to 23% for Abbott. Gillard quickly sought to establish her differences with Rudd by pledging a more consultative leadership and action to resolve such vote-shredding issues as the mining tax and climate change.

MINERS EXPECT TAX SOFTENING

Global miners such as Rio Tinto, BHP and Xstrata are expected to campaign strongly against the tax, if it is not changed, at the next election and help a resurgent conservative opposition's bid to oust Labor.

"If she is going back to a clean slate that's good news. But we still do not know if she will be negotiable on the 40% and other details. For us, the devil is in the detail," said Simon Bennison, chief executive of Australia's Association of Mining and Exploration Companies.

Economic analysts believe Gillard will either water down the tax or offer major concessions to miners.

"If they've gone to the trouble to put a new leader in to get their re-election chances up, then obviously they're going to water down the mining tax as well -- all part of that strategy to shore up voter support," said Mark Taylor, senior resources analyst at Morningstar.

Taylor suggested a Gillard government may "do something fairly radical" and put the tax on the backburner or make large concessions on the uplift rate or headline rate in order to appease miners and woo back voters.

OTHER ISSUES

A Gillard government could be expected to take a different approach to Rudd on other election issues, such as climate change and asylum seekers, which have caused Labor's slump with voters.

Rudd's failure to have a hostile Senate pass his climate policy and postpone the carbon trading scheme until 2011 lost the government the Green vote which brought it to power in 2007.

The influential Greens party, which may be a kingmaker in the next parliament with seven Senators, said Gillard is an excellent negotiator, which bodes well for future climate bills.

"I call on new prime minister Gillard and the leader of the opposition to stop the energy policy warfare and to seek consensus on this issue," said Independent MP Rob Oakeshott.

Rudd's unsuccessful steps to stop boatpeople has angered both voters opposed to asylum seekers and voters demanding a more humanitarian policy, with asylum seekers currently held in detention camps on an offshore island and an outback town.

But on the issue of asylum seekers, Gillard is reportedly under Labor party pressure to shift from her left-wing position and take a tougher stand on boatpeople.

Your sunscreen could be fatal! - Philip Moos and colleagues have said that particle size affects the toxicity of zinc oxide, a material widely used in sunscreens.

Nanoparticles in sunscreens could be toxic if accidentally eaten, according to scientists.

Philip Moos and colleagues have said that particle size affects the toxicity of zinc oxide, a material widely used in sunscreens.

Particles smaller than 100 nanometers are slightly more toxic to colon cells than conventional zinc oxide.

Solid zinc oxide was more toxic than equivalent amounts of soluble zinc, and direct particle to cell contact was required to cause cell death.

The researchers noted that there is ongoing concern about the potential toxicity of nanoparticles of various materials, which may have different physical and chemical properties than larger particles.

Barely 1/50,000 the width of a human hair, nanoparticles are used in foods, cosmetics and other consumer products. Some sunscreens contain nanoparticles of zinc oxide.

"Unintended exposure to nano-sized zinc oxide from children accidentally eating sunscreen products is a typical public concern, motivating the study of the effects of nanomaterials in the colon," noted the scientists.

Their experiments with cell cultures of colon cells compared the effects of zinc oxide nanoparticles to zinc oxide sold as a conventional powder.

They found that the nanoparticles were twice as toxic to the cells as the larger particles.

Although the nominal particle size was 1,000 times larger, the conventional zinc oxide contained a wide range of particle sizes and included material small enough to be considered as nanoparticles.

The concentration of nanoparticles that was toxic to the colon cells was equivalent to eating 2 grams of sunscreen — about 0.1 ounce.

This study used isolated cells to study biochemical effects and did not consider the changes to particles during passage through the digestive tract.

The scientists say that further research should be done to determine whether zinc nanoparticle toxicity occurs in laboratory animals and people.

The study is in ACS' Chemical Research in Toxicology, a monthly journal.

Bing is making a first step today to help make entertainment.

SAN FRANCISCO: Microsoft is making its Bing search engine more entertaining by spotlighting music, films, games and television shows.

The US technology giant added an array of features to make it easier for Bing users to find and play their favorite songs, movies, TV programs or online games.

"In this release of Bing one of the biggest investments we are making is in the area of entertainment," Bing senior vice president Yusuf Mehdi said in a blog post.

"Bing is making a first step today to help make entertainment on the Web easy and fun, so you spend less time searching for entertainment and more time doing the stuff you love."

Bing software was modified to improve results to entertainment-related searches and a page devoted to the content was launched at www.bing.com/entertainment

Microsoft tapped into its games divisions, which makes titles for the company's Xbox 360 videogame consoles, to arrange for people to be able to play scores of popular online games on Bing pages.

Bing users can search out song lyrics as well as get videos or concert tour dates of musicians and even sample tunes.

Bing offers new tools to get information about movies along with local restaurant, parking and other information "you need to get to the movie stress-free and have a great night out," according to Mehdi.

Microsoft is also tailoring Bing for television lovers.

"We've brought together a very comprehensive collection of full-length TV episodes and visually organized them so it's easy to find what you are looking for and start watching," Mehdi said.

"And if you are one of those people who watch TV on an actual TV, we're pulling in guide information to help you easily find what's on in your area from your service provider."
