Asia's Oldest Newspaper

"The Bombay Samachar" The Bombay Samachar published from Mumbai (Bombay) is Asia’s oldest newspaper and the most popular Gujarati daily. It is now 180 years old known in Gujarati as “Shri Mumbaina Samachar”. It was founded on July 1st 1822 by a Parsi merchant, Fardoonji Marzhan. As a weekly bulletin it contained information about movement of ships and cargo. Later, it became a daily paper and was bought by Mancherji Cama, an ink and paper merchant in 1932. Today it enjoys a circulation of 1, 50,000.
