Prof Sukhpal Singh, a senior professor at Law School, Banaras Hindu University has been appointed as Vice Chancellor of Hidaytullah National Law University, Raipur (Chhattisgarh).

Prof Singh, who joined BHU in 1983 as temporary lecturer said that his priority would be to make HNLU as one of the best law universities in the country. "I am looking forward to strengthen resources and introduce some new courses in the university that would take care of recent development in the field. But, presently, I would try to complete all my pending work like guiding research scholars in BHU before joining HNLU sometime in this month," he added.

Prof Sukhpal Singh is a native of Harchandpur village in Bulandshahr district in the state. Singh has published two
books, one each on Environmental and Commercial Law, while his work (as principal investigator) on compliance of environmental law under World Bank Project in as many as five cities in the state including Varanasi, Allahabad, Kanpur, Gorakhpur and Lucknow attracted attention in 2004. He also also published nearly two dozen research papers covering different facets of law study.
